Still looking for Obama's original birth certificate

Whoops, it turns out that Kenyan birth certificate that surfaced for President Obama was a fake. Of course this is causing another wave of disgruntled complaining by "birthers" who want to see the real information about his birth.

I’m guessing that a lot of adopted adults can relate. Many have amended birth certificates that are considered legit, but contain amended information about their birth. That’s just the way it’s been done for years – after the adoption, a new birth certificate is issued using the new name of the child and listing the adoptive parents as the parents.

As much as I think this whole birther thing has gotten a little out of control, they do have a point. The point is not so much that Obama needs to show us all proof of his citizenship, but it lies in what’s beneath the obsession: birth certificates seem to be a stamp of identity in our country, and it’s important on some level to have access to something that contains accurate information about the beginning of our lives.

I'm happy to let the debate over Obama's birth certificate continue to get media attention. After all, it's raising public awareness of an issue that affects many, many people in the country he's leading.
